Our approach to creating integrated organic breeding systems:
Organic Seed Alliance is guided by the vision that seed is a common cultural heritage and a living natural resource fundamental to the sustainability of food production. Proper stewardship of our genetic resources necessitates not only their conservation, but careful management in a manner that allows seed to continually evolve with the challenges of the environment, cultural practices of sustainable agriculture and the need to feed people. Through advocacy, collaborative education, advisory services, and research, we work to restore and develop seed varieties for current needs while safeguarding invaluable genetic resources for future generations.
Please visit these pages for more information about our Research program. Each link describes a different facet of our whole vision.
OSA Participatory Plant Breeding (PPB) Projects
OSA Plant Breeding Advisory Committee
The OSA Plant Breeding Advisory Committee includes university-based and non-profit leaders in organic plant breeding research and variety development. Committee members consult and participate in OSA plant breeding research and education projects and advise on PPB program development. Organic plant breeding is a developing area of research within the scientific community. We work together to network with other researchers and private plant breeders to develop viable methods and models of breeding for organic systems through participatory approaches.
